A sunny end of the week!?

Here the latest Video from the Sava Bohinjka- Friday October 16th – Bled fishing club still suffers from strong current, upstream in the Institute and Bohinj a bit better. Saturday will have the 1st fisherman, while Sunday and Monday October 17,18 should be ok for the fly fishing in all 3 sectors of the Sava B. river.

Fauna fly shop in Bled opens daily at 8:30am – welcome to visit :-)

www.faunaflyshop.si  open 24/7 – welcome to visit too :-)

Wednesday October 14th – out there on the Sava Bohinjka Bled fishing club;

The awesome year 2020 with the stup.covid situation decided to go in the history in style! Bringing 1st snow down on October 12th! While we should still be casting those dries at pleasant 18 degrees, we needed to put out winter closing instead and switch down to nymph and streamer..

Good news is, that this should be temporary messup and the situation with the weather and warmer temperatures should return in the second half of the month October. Hopefully. Since high mountains have snow now, rivers of the north-west Slovenia should be dropping fast and go clear possibly till the end of this week, October 18-19th. We shall be posting levels on Friday morning, welcome to visit.

Covid-situation: hm… we could say – a bit chaotic when it goes for crossing the borders with Slovenia: I had spoke with few flyfisherman from Italy and Austria – they told me nobody ask them nothing when they crossed the border. Others had to show covid-negative test not older than 2 days.. what we advise – if you go to fish for 1 day, maybe try your luck. But if it goes for a several day visit, make the test and make sure you will have your flyfishing tour a success..

With far less people than normal – you will have a lot of the comfort on the rivers, so is worth making the effort with the arrival.

Here some images of the October 12th – weird fishing weather but… fish were there :-)

Grayling fishing - Slovenia

Nice September for some Dryfly fishing!

Luckily we can post that the fly fishing conditions entering the second half of the September month are still good! Most of the rivers in Slovenia are at their optimal or low levels. Sava Dolinka tends to be white, even in the upper areas above the Moste Dam.. that effects also a bit the Sava river from the confluence down. We believe that the Sava Dolinka might clear out in the last week of the September – just perfect to plan some Grayling trips!

If you meet the hatch on the rivers these days – it is going to be a challenge.. small chironomidaes, tiny emergers, small ants.. leaders 7X are obligatory. If you happen to meet a larger trout not too deep down, you might as well present a big dry fly.. like the Stimulator or so.. 3/5 attempts they will go for it! But you do not want to mess up the strike – Only once you get the bait usually. Than fish loose their interest..

Faunaflyshop Bled opens daily at 08am to help you out with some advice about where to go and what areas to fly fish.. September is a popular FF month and there are several German groups of the fly fisherman on the area of Bled in these days so make sure you consult with us regarding the less busy areas and rivers. Looking forward meeting you!

SEPTEMBER FlyFishing Starts now!

Hi back into September`s fly fishing in Slovenia! Hot and crowded August is gone, showers chased away the swimmers from the rivers which now belong back to us, fly fisherman! At the moment of this fly fishing update, Sava Bohinjka is still having strong current, also Soca, while tributaries and smaller rivers like the Radovna river are almost good to go! To get some optimal levels on them, you will need to wait for Thursday or better Friday, Sept. 4th.. Weekend of September 5-6 will see most of the rivers having back their normal levels.. Unica should be also optimal for this end of the week..

Weather wizard saying:  this should be optimal for the Fly Fishing .. some T-showers possible today and tomorrow, but for the end of the week – fine!

wea-sept-4-6

Autumn has always been the best time of the fly fishing season to target larger trout! During the warm days, they might even come to the surface to snatch a beetle or ant imitation! Keep your leaders thin and invisible and you might stand a good chance for their strike!

Stock your dry flies for the grand finale of September and October! Don`t forget for some reliable Fluorocarbon lines too!

August Fly Fishing – all good!

Marching towards the middle of the August month – and on the rivers still good fly fishing conditions! Mostly all rivers you might be after – Sava Bohinjka, Soca, Radovna, Sava, Savinja, Unica are having normal summer levels which in 2020 are in fact not low due to several stormy days in the beginning of the month. There is of course some summer action on the rivers like water sports, kayak guys etc, but not that many since the COVID situation has reduced the tourism in general. If you go on your Fly fishing day early in the morning and return by 11am hitting the river again after 17pm – you did most favour for yourself..

Weather forecast is for now ok – but local storms can be expected almost every few days..

I will go on a summer break this Friday the 15th, returning back to the Fly shop with September 1st. In between, Fauna fly shop in Bled will be operating on a SHORTER OPENING HOURS, CALL THE PHONE BELOW TO MAKE SURE WE ARE OPEN AT THE TIME OF YOUR VISIT!

Assumption day opening hours AUGUST 15th and Sunday AUGUST 16th 9:30 – 10:30am only.

July Fly Fishing staying fresh and active!

Kind-a special July 2020 – as the whole year being very particular – showers and storms keep the temperatures on the rivers at the normal degrees. No super hot heat waves like in 2019, levels of most Slovenian rivers remaining low but fishable. Unica dropped below 40cm level which might mean very selective feeding of Grayling.. the rest of the major rivers like Sava Bohinjka, Soca, Idrijca, Radovna etc. will prefer smaller patterns, darker in general and of most importance – 7X tippet material! No wonder fly will do any good if you gonna attach it on a 4X tippet material hah!

Weather forecast for the coming week:

Strong Sun and cold water – Optimal for the Fly Fishing?

Yes, July in particular nice this year! Like the nature would like to redeem herself for the wet June we had been facing previously. Evening showers or even storms keeping the rivers in good shape and keeping the fish active also during the day. Normally, July would be having some action on the river early in the morning and late afternoons, but now one can nicely fly fish also during the day. Sava Bohinjka having average angler visit, if you come to our Fly shop we can decide which of the 3 areas of the river is less busy on a chosen day..

COVID- no new restrictions except wearing masks when you enter in some shops. SLOVENIA does not have any major infection increasing and is consider safest Balkan area state for the visit! If you follow basic hygienic rules – you almost have no chance to infect yourself if visiting Bled area and surrounding villages!

www.FAUNAFLYSHOP.si news:  A WEEK of promotional Simms Cap sale!  Use cupone caps20 at the basket check-out process!

Weather forecast for the following days – ALL GOOD and SAFE TO COME!

Hey you fishing visitor – glad to find you here!

Surely hundreds of us fly fisherman and woman staying grounded worldwide! News from Slovenia – 1st hand without the media pomp: life is severely stopped now true.. but if you walk on the empty streets of Bled or other hot-spots – it kind-a still feels normal. Desolated, true, but yet a bit normal. Rivers are now hand full only of anglers, few solitary local anglers and very few tourist fly fisherman. Not that they would not be left in Slovenia- borders can be passed if you area healthy. the problem is local isolation in the home countries like Italy, Austria, Germany, Hungary etc.. that is basically what is keeping the fly fisherman away… No news on the fly fishing horizon so far.. Main season opens with April 1st, but obviously no real crowd is expected.. how could.. the damn Covid is still around and we can only hope that higher spring temperatures will chase it away eventually… mentioned temperatures – next week SNOW is forecasted for the north-west Slovenia!

Beside that, Fauna Team all well, tying some flies, making some Hucho advertising to be published later, etc.. We wish you lots of health and patience, this are probably the hardest times to face in the last decades – but did a fly fisherman ever gave up? Not that we remember 😉

stay in contact we shall be informing you more regularly now how the situation is improving..
